Pattaya, a former seaside resort near Bangkok gained fame in the 70's, when US soldiers ventured here on R&R from the Vietnam war.
Ever since that day, the boom has mounted to new developments.
Prostitution, sex tourism and nightlife became dominant and accommodations mushroomed up across the entire spectrum, from simple guest house to full blown 5 star residences. Siampedia produced this short video to show a formerly remote area of Pattaya, which will soon be integrated and assimilated by the Monstercity of Redlight venues!
No room left for nature anywhere on that coast!
Reports of those soldiers and their photographies documented Wong Amat as an idyllic coarse sand beach, palmfringed and a handfull of wooden huts. Then came the sex tourists. First in line were British, German, Scandivian and Italian tourists replacing guests from the USA, then came Russians and other formerly suppressed people. Now Arabic and African tourists flock the Beach road in Pattaya, the penty sleazy Beerbars and the GoGo Entertainment venues in growing numbers. Wong Amat did not only lose ground, but collected all precipitation run off from all developments and concrete/blacktop surfaces further up the Naklua hill. Naklua is a major residential area with already thousands of guest beds! Developments encroach further onto the beach and today's construction fences leave hardly roo enough to secure the fishingoats. A paradise lost forever to mass tourism.
