La Ruta de Maya

mmm, interesting. I travelled through this country on a bike (along with forteen others) and rightly or wrongly what always bore a little heavy on my mind is the effect we have on the places we pass through. What do we take away from it? More than just photos and memories of wicked drop offs or sweet unintelligable children? What do they gain? Soemtimes moneny from tourism, sometimes realisation that one needs money to buy a bike / t-shirt / car etc, thereby falling into the capitalist trap and out of their sustainable way of life. there are at least 23 indigenous languages in guatemala. Some of them are sure to die out very soon - does tourism help or hinder that? I don't know the answers (more complicated than yes or no!), and i'm a hypocryte..... just speculating....perhaps its one for the forum!

This is a great video clip, makes me want to get back on my bike and hit some trails: the scenery isn't quite as nice as in this clip though - fantastic.
