The island of South Georgia is Unique.
It is not accesable by Planes there is nowhere flat enough for a runway, & its too far for a helicopter, so the only way there is by ship or Yacht.
That makes it a haven for wildlife, especially Penguins, Seals & Albatross.
In the early part of the century there was a large community of whalers here in some 7 stations, but over the years they managed to kill them all off, so they left hoping to come back later for more. There are still no whales in the waters round South Georgia now, although the Fur seals have taken over the gap in the food chain & there are simply millions of them now.
The whaling stations are interesting to visit & see the destruction they must have caused, as they simply left it all as it was, as they were hoping to return, so the place is like a giant museum.
